Bhante Rāhula Thera

Born in Mexico, Bhante Rāhula is a former musician and composer with a master’s degree in music therapy. Raised Catholic, his lifelong spiritual search led him through Hindu meditation, Native American ceremonies, Sufism, and Islam before he discovered the Buddha’s teachings and embraced the monastic life. In 2001, he moved to Asia, where he spent two decades studying and practicing the Dhamma. He was ordained in Myanmar under the Most Venerable Sayadaw Dr. Nandamālābhivaṃsa and has trained with respected teachers including Sayadaw U Tejaniya, Sayadaw Dr. Ukkamsa-cara, and Venerable Ariyadhammika. In 2019, he completed a course on Buddhist scriptures through Harvard University.

Since 2016, Bhante has taught students from 18 countries through weekly online and in-person teachings, retreats, and Dhamma tours across the Americas and Asia in English, Spanish, and Portuguese. His warm teaching style combines visual storytelling, humor, and silent contemplation to make the Dhamma practical and accessible. He is currently developing the Mexican Buddhist Center (Paññābhūmi Forest Monastery), with the long-term vision of establishing a nunnery to support the female Saṅgha in Latin America. He also supports outreach in hospitals, palliative care centers, universities, youth education, and addiction recovery programs, sharing the Dhamma for the welfare and liberation of all.
